Brunswick Community College President Gene Smith was presented with the Award for Excellence in Community Service by the Southport-Oak Island Kiwanis Club during a gathering held on campus.
According to a news release, the award recognizes Smith’s "visionary leadership in higher education and his ongoing commitment to expanding educational access and student success in Brunswick County and beyond."
Members of the BCC Board of Trustees, senior leadership and family attended the presentation, the release stated. According to the release, the award highlights Smith’s "dedication to building strong community partnerships, developing new academic pathways and cultivating a campus culture grounded in service, respect, excellence, opportunity and integrity."
Smith stated in the release, “The achievements acknowledged by this award are the result of a collective effort. I am fortunate to work alongside talented and passionate faculty, staff, and trustees who care deeply about our students and their futures. I am also grateful for my wife and family, whose constant support makes everything possible. This recognition reflects what we can accomplish when we work together in service of our community.”
