During its final 2025 regular meeting, the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners unanimously elected Commissioner LeAnn Pierce to serve as chair for the coming year, while Commissioner Dane Scalise (pictured below) will be vice chair.

r natural resources, investing in public safety and infrastructure, and making thoughtful decisions that support our community’s long-term health. I appreciate the collaborative work of my fellow Commissioners and look forward to continuing that work in the year ahead.”
Each December, the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners elects its chair and vice chair to serve a one-year term, according to the release.
Pierce was elected to a four-year term from December 2022 through December 2026. Scalise was originally appointed to the board to fill a vacancy from April 2023 through December 2024. He was elected to a four-year term from December 2024 through December 2028.
“Our community expects us to be responsible stewards of public resources while protecting the quality of life that makes New Hanover County a great place to live,” Scalise stated in the release. “As vice chair, I’m committed to delivering essential services efficiently, supporting public safety, and making balanced decisions that serve residents today and in the future.”
