The Takeaway: In the pipeline

By Business Journal Staff, posted Dec 17, 2025 on wilmingtonbiz.com

Crews moved pipes into place near Freeman Park as work for a major beach nourishment project kicked off last month for Pleasure Island.

The pipes will be used to move sand from Carolina Beach Inlet to the shorelines of Carolina and Kure beaches. Contractors are expected to fill in more than 1.5 million cubic yards of sand for the nearly $23.5 million project, and the dredging is expected to last until April, according to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Wilmington District office.

Residents can keep track of the sand placement as it moves south along the beaches at the Corps site by clicking here.
